Jenny spent 4 weeks with us, her base was Atwater, California.
Our first outing together led to Mount Diablo, with views of the entire SF Bay Area.
One of the first trips took us along Pacific Coast Highway 1 was to Bodega Bay and Bodega, site of the movie "The Birds" by Alfred Hitchcock. We dined at "The Tides" restaurant, featured in the movie. Our way back led over the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco.
Another early trip led to Point Lobos State Park, South of Carmel, and Fisherman's Wharf in Montery. Jenny also spent time with my son and family at Six Flags in the North Bay, and Santa Cruz Boardwalk. Some shopping was completed at the Great Mall by the Bay.
Visiting the largest living tree in the world, our travels took us to King's Canyon National Park, and Sequoia National Park. We stayed in a lovely house in Three Rivers, in the Sequoia Village Inn. While hiking in Sequoia, my grandchildren Autumn and Zach climbed Moro Rock with us, and visited Boyden Cave.
A trip with Marty to Northern California led to Lassen National Park. Trails we took included Bumpass Hell, Cold Boiling Lake, and Cinder Cone. We stayed in Burney, in the Green Gables Motel. We visited Burney Falls on our way out.
Next stop was Lavabeds National Monument, along the California-Oregon border. Exploring caves without a guide was new to all of us, and very interesting! Some caves were so low we had to hop like frogs, and others we had to squeeze thru like a worm. Not everybody's thing, for sure! The park service provided flashlights, and we had to buy helmets for this adventure.
Returning to Redding, California, we spent the next day driving to the coast on curvey 299. After lunch near Eureka, we drove down the Ave of the Giants.
Last days were spent in Yosemite National Park, visiting Glacier Point, Yosemite Falls, the Ahwahnee, and Bridleveil Falls.
San Francisco's Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf, and Lombard Street were our destinations on Jenny's last full day in California. We spent a couple of hours on a Bay Cruise with the Blue and Gold Fleet.
Jenny returned to Germany on a non stop flight to Frankfurt on Lufthansa Airlines.
