Daniel spent 4 weeks with us, his base was Atwater, California.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

One of our outings together led us to the Southern California town of Corona, our base was the house of my friend Annette.

A day trip found us wandering the sidewalks of Hollywood. The Walk of Fame had us admire many stars' stars in side walks along Hollywood Boulevard, as well as their foot and hand prints in front of Grauman's Chinese Theatre. Daniel also visited Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum.

A fun day was spent at Disneyland.
Favorite rides were Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, Casey Jones, Matterhorn, The Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Carribean.

We drove home via Santa Monica and Malibu on the Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1).

SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA

We visited the SF Bay Area.

Our first SF stop led us to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. (If you click on the link, you can take a virtual tour). It was so windy on the bridge we only walked to the South Tower and then turned around. The North tower was fogged in.
(This is fairly typical California coast weather during the summer, the hotter it is inland- and inland was sweltering in 108 degree temperatures- the colder the weather in the coastal areas.)

Another day we visited Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39. We rode BART from Pleasanton to Market Street San Francisco, and then the Cable Car from Market to the wharf.

Daniel's next to last day was spent in Six Flags Marine World, (in Vallejo, near San Francisco) where we enjoyed Thrill Rides and animal shows.

CENTRAL CALIFORNIA

One day was spent in Yosemite National Park. We visited Yosemite Falls and had lunch at the Ahwahnee. A visit to Glacier Point and a hike to Sentinel Dome completed our Yosemite outing. We were lucky enough to spot a bear in a meadow.

Another day was spent in King's Canyon/Sequoia National Park. We hiked Grant Grove in King's, and hiked to the Sherman Tree in Sequoia. The Sherman tree is the largest tree in the world by volume. We were lucky enough to spot a bear right in the parking lot!

In Gold Country, or the foothills of the Sierra Nevada we visited Moaning Cavern. It was quite exciting, as the lights went out while we were at the bottom on the cave. We had to return by illumination of flashlights. A short visit to the "Ghost Town" of Columbia completed that day.

We also spent a day in Old Sacramento, and having lunch in the Rio City Cafe next to the Sacramento River.

The wharf in Monterey, is a popular tourist spot. We visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Afterward we stopped for an excellent seafood dinner at Phil's Fish Market in Moss Landing.

Atwater California, Daniel's home base, has a large air museum, the Castle Air Museum. You can find photos of this visit when you click on Daniel's photos below.

Some family time was spent at Lake Yosemite near Merced, California.
