CALIFORNIA HIKER Calaveras Big Trees Sierra Nevada Calaveras Big Trees State Park is located along CA HWY 4 in the mountains. From Stockton on Highway 99, take State Highway 4 East about 60 miles to Calaveras Big Trees. The park is about 20 miles from Murphys. There are some great hiking trails! We took the one in the North Grove, an easy to walk flat trail, a mile long interpretive loop trail. Ideal hiking time: Any time. ....but Consideration: There may be snow in winter.
