Kings Canyon National Park lies just South of its famous cousin Yosemite, 'though the 2 have no connecting road. From HWY 99, take 180 East, which leads you right into the National Park. Call ahead for road condtions. The park is situated in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range and boasts peaks over 14,000 feet tall.... so there is snow in winter. Lovely meadows, waterfalls, and some of the world's largest and oldest trees make this National Park a "must visit"! A ~40 mile windy road connects King's Canyon to Sequoia National Park.
Official website of the park is here:
King's Canyon/Sequoia National Park

Sequoia National Park is located in California, South of Yosemite and King's Canyon National Park. Is is part of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. You can walk to Mount Whitney, the tallest mountain in the continental US, from Sequoia in 35 miles. If you want to drive to Mt Whitney from here, you have to go back to the valley, and cross the Sierras elsewhere to get to the other side. There is no pass road across either King's Canyon or Sequoia National Park. There is also no direct road connecting Yosemite NP with Sequoia NP.
Sequoia National Park can be reached by car via highway 99. South of Fresno turn East on hwy 180 to go to King's Canyon, (King's and Sequoia are connected by a windy road), or turn East on 198 going to Sequoia Park. Official website of the park is here:
